2022 World Cup: Ghanaians eager to get revenge against Uruguay – Asamoah Gyan

Date:

The 2022 World Cup group stage match versus Uruguay, according to former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan, will be the most crucial for his nation given their respective histories.

Before Luis Suarez’s goal, Ghana seemed poised to make history in 2010 by becoming the first African side to advance past the quarterfinals of a senior World Cup.

Suarez intentionally handled a header from a free kick that was destined for the goal in stoppage time on the goal line, and even though he was dismissed, the goal stood.

Asamoah Gyan, the nation’s all-time leading goal scorer with 51 goals, did not successfully convert the ensuing penalty kick, and Uruguay ultimately won on penalties.

“Everyone in Ghana is waiting for the game against Uruguay because of what happened in 2010,” Gyan said as a co-anchor on a SuperSport World Cup show.

“We feel like it is our opportunity to get revenge,” he added.

On December 2, Ghana will play Uruguay in their final Group H match. Before playing South Korea, the Black Stars’ season will begin against Portugal.
