Ghana’s Wahid Omar beats Fiji’s Elia Robobuli in boxing at the Commonwealth Games

Date:

Abdul Wahib Omar of Ghana put on one of the better individual boxing displays of Day 4 of the current Commonwealth Games.

On Sunday night, the Men’s Light Middleweight contestant, a 24-year-old native of the Wisdom Boxing Gym in Accra, entered the ring with only one goal in mind: victory!

He started a furious onslaught against his 22-year-old South Pacific opponent from Fiji, Elia Robobuli, just after the opening bell.

More was anticipated of the Fijian fighter given the high stakes of making it to the Quarterfinals, but before he could even get going, he was knocked out in the first round.

The fight had to be stopped after the referee called three stoppage counts in a row.

Omar delivered a crushing finish, which means Ghana will get to see one of the six remaining boxers in the quarterfinals this week.

After one disqualification, two losses, and increased public attention following the doping setback 72 hours earlier, this was the ideal answer by the Black Bombers.
