2024-25 GPL: How bad can it get for Hearts of Oak?

Date:

Accra Hearts of Oak had hoped to recover from the not-so-shocking defeat to league newcomers Basake Holy Stars in the opening round of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League when they faced Kpando Heart of Lions.

Nana Oppong fired Heart of Lions into the lead with a clever finish thanks to an equally clever pass to break the defensive line of Hearts of Oak.

Prior to the match, the management of the Phobians released a press statement debunking rumours of their under-pressure head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, being given a number of games to turn around the fortunes of the team.

Now with this defeat, calls for the Ivorian gaffer’s dismissal have intensified, with the club seeming to head towards crisis after barely surviving the 2023-24 season.

Ishmael Addo made matters worse for Ouattara’s side after putting the final nail in their coffin with Heart of Lions’ second and final goal of the game to claim the maximum points.

What is next for Hearts of Oak? How low can they continue to sink?
