The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has waded into the trending news regarding Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Mr Ampofo Ankrah, appointed in March 2025 as the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), was asked to step aside by the Office of the President on October 1, 2026.
This unsurprising move to many is due to pending investigations into allegations of visa fraud of nearly USD700,000 on the part of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
Contrary to the viral reportage of the trained broadcaster, who transitioned into civil service and was sacked, Hon. Adams stated on Blakk Rasta’s Blakk Empire Media that he was rather suspended.
“Well, I can’t say he has been sacked. What has happened is that we have received some complaints and matters that have reached the CID, and it is being investigated.
The president feels in order not to interfere in the processes; he clearly feels the magnitude of the issues that are being dealt with here, and with the preliminary checks that have been done, the Director General is suspended until such time when the investigations are concluded. ”
Mr Ampofo Ankrah broke his silence after the announcement on social media, saying, “The President is always right.”
The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and Police CID are reported to be investigating the visa fraud scandal.
