Karen Rita Brady, Baroness Brady, vice chairman of West Ham United, has disclosed why her club had to let go of Mohammed Kudus.
The Ghanaian international signed for Tottenham Hotspur in a £55 million transfer from West Ham over the summer.
Burnley gaffer Scott Parker was the last player to ever move from the Hammers to the Spurs decades ago before Kudus’ move.
According to Baroness Brady, West Ham had to sell the Black Stars midfielder due to a PSR decision, besides the fact that he had an underwhelming second season in East London.
“The financial restraints and PSR, and all the rules and regulations in football mean you have to do some trading. That’s the way it is… You have to sell to try and buy,” she said on talkSport.
PSR stands for Profit and Sustainability Rules. These are financial regulations implemented by the Premier League to ensure clubs operate within their means and maintain financial stability.
Kudus is fast becoming a fan favourite at Tottenham since impressing in the UEFA Super Cup against PSG and registering two assists against Burnley on Saturday.
