Renowned Highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr. has shot down claims that rapper Sarkodie is disrespectful and never replies to messages.
According to him, the critics of the rapper hardly know Sarkodie and how he does his things; that’s why they easily get offended.
It could be recalled that music director Yaw Skyface made an outburst that Sarkodie failed to appear during the video shooting of Kofi Mole’s “Makoma” song, which Sarkodie claimed he had no idea about the scheduled video shoot.
Defending Sarkodie on that matter during an interview with Max Drive in Accra on Tuesday, Akwaboah debunked claims that Sarkodie intentionally skipped the scheduled video.
“You must know the lifestyle of the person you’re dealing with because sometimes one cannot reply to messages right away. For instance, your wife might have upset you, so if someone sends you a good morning, you can’t answer right away.”
“For me, I know how he is and how he replies, so I send the message straightforwardly talking about what I need him for. So if it is an event, I give him the date and the songs we will sing. Two days into the event, he will hit me up,” he said.
The problem, Akwaboah said, was the people, not Sarkodie, because they failed to tell him about what they needed him to do and the time scheduled for it.
He maintained that expecting Sarkodie for a friendly chat might not be possible, noting that at that time he might be engaged in other things.
“If you understand how Sarkodie works and accept him for who he is, then you will not get offended. You must respect yourself and give Sarkodie the needed respect too. At the appropriate time he will reply.”
“If you like and he sends you a message, you can also choose to ignore it because Sarkodie will not take it to heart. He will not take it personally, so you too don’t take it personally,” Akwaboah added.
