Portugal captain Ronaldo played UNL final with an injury

Date:

Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo has disclosed that he participated in the UEFA Nations League with an injury.

Ronaldo spoke after leading Portugal to beat Spain in the Nations League final on Sunday.

According to the 40-year-old, he felt something in the warm-up, but opted to go ahead and play the final as it was an important match for his country.

Speaking to the media after Portugal defeated Spain, the former Real Madrid forward said that he would have played for the national team with a broken leg if needed.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said (via OJogo): “I had already felt it [injury] in the warm-up, it had been coming for some time.”

“But, for the national team, if I had to break a leg, I’d leave. It is a title, I had to play and I gave my best, I went as far as I could. I helped with a goal,” he said.

Ronaldo netted Portugal’s second goal during the 2-2 draw in Munich.

Portugal went on to win 5-3 on penalty shootout after 120 minutes at the Allianz Arena.
