The Principal of High Lady Beautician School in Goaso, Ms Dorothy Bonsu, has commended the Paramount Queenmother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa I, also known as Otumfuo’s Betwahemaa, for her efforts to promote skills training and entrepreneurship among young women.
Ms Bonsu said Nana Afia Serwaa I had consistently encouraged young girls to acquire practical skills that could enable them to become economically independent and create sustainable livelihoods.
According to her, the Queenmother had demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting young women to learn trades and develop entrepreneurial skills rather than depending solely on government employment opportunities.
“Nana Afia Serwaa I is devoted to supporting and assisting young girls to acquire skills so they will not always have to rely on the government before they can get something doing,” she said.
Ms Bonsu also described her personal relationship with the Queenmother, saying Nana Afia Serwaa I had been a mother figure who continued to provide guidance and support whenever she sought her advice.
“I regard her as my mother because anytime I go to her to seek advice and support, she welcomes me. She always guides me in everything that I do,” she said.
She noted that practical skills training could equip young people with the ability to earn a living, establish small businesses, support their families and contribute to the development of their communities.
Ms Bonsu therefore called for greater attention to skills development in the Ahafo Region, particularly programmes designed to provide young women with practical vocational training and the necessary support to establish sustainable businesses.
She said sustained investment in vocational and entrepreneurial training would help more young women gain the skills, confidence and opportunities needed to build independent livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of their communities.
