Asante Kotoko’s captain, Richmond Lamptey, has received his first call-up to the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars, for the 2023 AFCON.
The creative midfielder, Lamptey, has been delightful since the start of the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League and has won the admiration of many, including rival supporters.
Alongside Lamptey are two other locally based stars making their way to Ivory Coast: Fatawu Hamidu and Jonathan Sowah, both from the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC.
Chris Hughton, in his provisional squad, named eleven local stars but deemed it best to select three out of them for the final list.
The Black Stars will pitch camp in Kumasi, train intensively behind closed doors, and face Namibia in a preparational match ahead of the biggest sporting event on Africa’s football calendar.
