Black Stars and West Ham United star, Mohammed Kudus, was honoured with the prestigious Zongo Heroes Award during the maiden edition of the Bazaki Football Tournament, held in Nima on Sunday, June 29.
The award celebrates Kudus’ inspiring rise from the heart of Nima to international football and acknowledges his dedication to giving back to Zongo communities through impactful social and sporting initiatives.
Organized by Kudus in collaboration with Skechers, the Bazaki Football Tournament was created to discover and nurture young football talent in Nima and surrounding Zongo areas. Ten grassroots teams participated in the fiercely contested competition, which saw Academy XI clinch the title after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Legon All Stars.
Beyond the on-pitch action, the standout moment of the day was the presentation of the Zongo Heroes Award to Kudus. The recognition was not only for his football excellence but also for his selfless humanitarian efforts, youth empowerment programs, and the pride he brings to Zongo communities worldwide.
“This is bigger than football—it’s about giving back and building the next generation,” Kudus said.
The award places him among a distinguished list of recipients, including National Chief Imam Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, Abdul Razak (Golden Boy), and Mohammed Polo, who have all made lasting contributions to Zongo heritage and development.
The success of the tournament has sparked widespread praise, with calls for it to become an annual fixture as Kudus continues to use his platform to transform lives through football and community engagement.
