Gyan: Black Stars Not Under Pressure

Date:

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has downplayed the assertion that the team is under pressure.

The Black Stars are currently preparing for the forthcoming penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifier against the Central African Republic.

Following the hiccup in the game against Chad in N’djamena in early September, Ghana recovered with an all-important 1-0 home win over Mali.

With Comoros hot on the heels of Ghana, the assertion that the Black Stars are under pressure has been dispelled by Gyan, who has been in such a position several times during his playing days.

According to Gyan, the team were in a similar position in 2022 but weathered whichever storm to book a place at Qatar 2022. He is confident they can repeat such a feat.

“Sometimes this good pressure makes you stand on your toes, especially in a game like this. Anyone who says there’s no pressure before a game is a liar.

“I am sure they have been there before [in 2022]. Some of the players have been there before. They’ll be speaking to themselves to prepare for the game, so as for the pressure, it will always be there, but I am sure they will be able to handle the pressure,” he said to 3Sports.

The match is scheduled to take place at 16:00 GMT on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Stade d’Honneur in Casablanca.
