Gospel songstress, Agnes Opoku Agyemang, has advised Christians to choose their lives over an abusive marriage.
According to her, God even prioritizes life, hence his reason for dying on the cross and rising up for the vindication of mankind for them to gain eternal life.
Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Wednesday, the “Me Nsan Ma Kyi” hitmaker noted that some Christians and their perception about marriage is the reason some women are not ready to divorce their abusive husbands.
”God who created us has given us wisdom. He has created life and death and I don’t believe that a person will see death and still choose to die.
If the late Nigerian artist Osinachi Nwachukwu fled for her life when she was being abused, many would have questioned the motive behind an anointed gospel musician who has divorced her husband,” she said.
Agnes Opoku Agyemang maintained that because Osinachi listened to what society and Christians said, she tragically lost her life in an abusive marriage.
”Don’t sit for someone to trample on your right, even God says run for your life. It’s not wrong to run for your life. Life is important that’s why God said flee for your life,” she added.
Agnes Opoku Agyemang’s advice came while reacting to the 32-year-old Harriet Amuzu who suffered domestic abuse by her husband, John Odartey Lamptey believed to be a landlord at Ofankor.
Though her husband is arrested alongside other cohorts, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who visited the victim also stated that the cultural norms surrounding the area suggested that a woman did not have a right to question or talk back at her husband.
The people within the neighborhood instigated that the abuse Harriet suffered was justified, but the Minister expressed the need for gender based violence to stop.
