Tension erupted in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Greater Accra following the December 7 polls as concerns emerged over the handling of election materials.
Reports indicate that after vote counting concluded and ballot papers were being transferred to the collation center, a disagreement arose at one polling station. The presiding officer reportedly refused to place the Biometric Verification Device (BVD) in the ballot box and seal it for transport, contrary to standard procedure.
The situation escalated when police intervened, instructing the presiding officer to comply. Despite their orders, the officer refused, leading to further unrest.
Tensions peaked when the presiding officer loaded the ballot box into a vehicle that residents discovered was unregistered. Alarmed by the vehicle’s status, residents prevented it from transporting the ballot box to the collation center.
Police eventually took control of the situation, securing the ballot box and ensuring its transport to the collation center.
