Hon. Sam George has revealed an ongoing engagement with French TV satellite company Canal+ to address Ghana’s dispute with MultiChoice.
MultiChoice rejected a suspension directive from the National Communications Authority through the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Sam George, on August 3 after his address at the Government Accountability Series.
“They are aware of the situation going on here in Ghana, and I have made it clear to them,” he said of Canal+, who own a third of shares in MultiChoice.
“They have reached out, and I have made it clear to them: if they want to come into Ghana and operate on the licence that the company they are buying has, this is our request. They’ve made certain indications, and I said to them, ‘I want it in writing,’” he further added on Joy FM.
He stated that Canal+ has already received approval from South Africa’s competition regulator, with the full takeover likely to be completed by October.
