Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has called for tolerance of Ghanaians to permit the government to invest in quality no matter the cost.
The politician and business tycoon was present at the state funeral of the eight fallen heroes of the Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The eight fallen heroes are Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Mr Samuel Aboagye, Wing Commander Peter Anala, Flight Lieutenant Twum Ampadu, and Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo.
Mr Agyapong recalled to Max TV’s Diana Zikpi that the crashed helicopter, a Chinese Z-9, was acquired by former President John Agyekum Kuffuor just before handing power to the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2009—depicting how old the aircraft was—suggesting the need for new ones.
“Just before his tenure ended, former President Kuffuor approved the purchase of the aircraft.” They were actually two, but because of complaints from Ghanaians, only one was acquired. We need to understand that when money ought to be spent for quality, it must be allowed so that incidents like this [GAF helicopter crash] should never happen again.”
