Popular psychologist Sylvester Kwabena Sackiteh has warned women against committing themselves into abusive marriages due to the vows made with partners during their marriage.
According to him, once the foundation for the vows is broken, there’s the need for the woman to also break from that marriage.
The psychologist said this during an interview on the Max Novella Chat Show in Accra on Sunday.
”Marital Vows are commitment to the person but not a commitment to the things the person will do to you in the marriage. So if you see change in character, you too change from the promises you made through the vows,” he said.
Sackiteh maintained that there was no need for a person to be convicted to vows whilst the other partner has turned against the vows to abuse and issue death threats.
”If the vows you made are sending you to your doom, you need to be vigilant and cautious. What did you stand on before making those vows? If that foundation you stood on to make those vows is not there, then the vows are not. The time she was reciting those vows, her husband was not beating her, the husband was not issuing death threats, but if those things are setting in, your mental health should be your priority,” he added.
