England talisman Jude Bellingham has given an honest reason why he shouldn’t have had the Superior Player of the Match award.
In reaction to receiving the award, the Real Madrid midfielder believed a defensive player from Ghana deserved it more than him.
The defense of the Black Stars of Ghana was impeccable against the Three Lions of England as their second Group L game ended in an entertaining goalless draw.
Ghana managed to restrict England to very few chances, especially shutting them out in the first half of the game at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough.
“I didn’t deserve to be honest. It probably should’ve gone to one of their lads. They defended so well. It was hard to get into the game,” Bellingham said at the end of the game.
Ghana’s experienced head coach Carlos Queiroz selected Benjamin Asare in goal, Marvin Senaya at right-back, Gideon Mensah for the left-back role, and Jonas Adjetey and Jerome Opoku to partner each other at center-back.
The return of Thomas Partey proved crucial as he controlled the tempo with simple, deft touches; Kwasi Sibo brought in the robustness, while Caleb Yirenkyi provided the box-to-box energetic runs.
Next for the Black Stars is Croatia on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 21:00 GMT live on Max TV.
