Asante Kotoko’s Business Models Criticised

Date:

When you don’t change in conformity with modern trends, you get left behind.

A mutual assertion shared by seasoned Ghanaian football pundits Jerry Paemuka and Kojo Addae-Mensah.

Kotoko is operating on clearly outmoded models, which often results in crises with coaches paying the price.

The club is infamously known for purchasing a whole bunch of players just to let 95% of them leave at the end of the season.

Even with the inclusion of an experienced football coach of the calibre of current Sudan national team gaffer James Kwesi Appiah, the club appears to be in shambles in the recruitment aspect.

On the Sports Pack show on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Addae-Mensah and Jerry Paemuka criticised the club’s current business model and urged them to adopt modern trends.

“Kotoko must adopt a modern business model by employing professionals to man different departments of the club,” said Jerry Paemuka, a former editor of Kotoko Express.

The difference in business models between most clubs in Africa and the rest of the world is caused by how the football business model is built and managed.

The real story of how football clubs make money is not about goals or trophies. It is about revenue systems.
