NRSA Mourns Victims of Atwedie Crash

Date:

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident that occurred on Monday, 28th July 2025, along the Atwedie-Asankare stretch of the N6 Highway. The fatal collision claimed the lives of sixteen individuals and left many others critically injured, prompting widespread mourning and renewed calls for road safety vigilance.

In a press release dated 31st July 2025, the NRSA confirmed that the accident involved a Ford Transit bus with registration number GT 4674-22 and a DAF XF articulated tanker truck registered as GT 1674-17. The incident, which is one of the most devastating crashes recorded this year, has drawn national attention and sparked urgent calls for stricter traffic regulation enforcement.

The NRSA extended its deepest condolences to the families and associations affected by this tragic event. “We also wish those injured a speedy and full recovery,” the statement read, as the Authority acknowledged the emotional and physical toll of the accident on victims and their communities.

As part of its response to the rising spate of fatal crashes on Ghana’s roads, the NRSA is pushing for intensified enforcement of road traffic regulations. The Authority is working closely with the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to clamp down on violations and enhance driver compliance across the country.

Motorists have been strongly cautioned to observe all road safety measures, including obeying speed limits, ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, and adhering to all traffic rules. The NRSA emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility and that preventable accidents must no longer be tolerated.

The Atwedie-Asankare stretch of the N6 Highway has been identified as a high-risk zone, with authorities now considering the implementation of additional safety infrastructure and frequent patrols. While investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing, the NRSA believes that improved discipline among drivers is essential to preventing future tragedies.

The nation continues to mourn the lives lost in this devastating accident, as the NRSA reaffirms its commitment to making Ghana’s roads safer for all. Stakeholders, including transport unions and civil society, are being urged to join hands with government agencies in tackling the country’s road safety challenges head-on.
