Tuesday UWCL Wrap: Arsenal, Man City, Barcelona, Bayern pick up crucial wins

Date:

Arsenal maintained their stellar run of form under interim boss Renee Slegers by beating Juventus in the Women’s Champions League.

Frida Maanum, Stina Blackstenius, Mariona Caldentey, and Caitlin Foord all scored to ensure Arsenal are now unbeaten in five matches since Slegers took over following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation.

Manchester City continued their 100% start in the Women’s Champions League with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Hammarby.

After a frustrating first half in which the hard-working visitors limited City’s chances, Gareth Taylor’s side finally broke the deadlock when Laura Blindkilde Brown swept home less than two minutes after the restart.

The Swedish side, cheered on by a raucous travelling fanbase, had their hopes crushed when Aoba Fujino’s diving header nestled into the back of the net with 10 minutes remaining.

The defending champions FC Barcelona fired seven past St. Polten to secure their second win of the campaign at Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Ewa Pajor, Kika Nazareth, Aitana Bonmati, Keira Walsh, and Claudia Pina scored to give the Blaugranas a 5-0 first-half lead before Pina doubled her tally, as Caroline Hansen scored to complete the riot.

Former Chelsea captain Pernille Harder led FC Bayern Munchen to a 3-0 victory, as Giulia Gwinn and Sarah Zadrazil also scored to maintain the German giants streak.
