Samuel Owusu condemns Shatta Wale’s critics

Date:

Legendary singer Samuel Owusu has condemned critics who protested against Shatta Wale for winning the Highlife song of the year at the Ghana Music Awards with his hit track “I Know My Level.”

According to him, the critics have no reason to trash the song for being a highlife song.

Speaking exclusively on the Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the veteran musician noted that if Shatta Wale claimed his song had the traits of a highlife sound, then there was no need for the public to debate that.

“When Shatta Wale sang the song, where did he categorize it? If it’s highlife, then why are they talking so much about it? If the artiste said his song should be identified as Highlife and he won an award for it, then the public has no reason to argue,” he added.

Samuel Owusu named Akwaboah and Kofi Kinaata as his best highlife musicians in Ghana and urged them to continue promoting the authentic highlife song.

“I didn’t mention their names because I know them. Aside from the fact that I know the father of Akwaboah, who used to be a musician, I don’t know Akwaboah and Kofi Kinaata, but they are doing a great job as far as Highlife is concerned. Maybe someone who is sitting outside might think I chose them because they are musicians I know, but I don’t know them,” he added.
