MAX LIFESTYLE: Fruits to avoid if you have stomach ulcer

Date:

Stomach or peptic ulcer is a sore that develops on the lining of the oesophagus, stomach or small intestine. Ulcers occur when stomach acid damages the lining of the digestive tract. Common causes include the bacteria H. Pylori and anti-inflammatory pain relievers including aspirin.

This can make digestion very difficult and can cause great discomfort to the person with the condition.

Contrary to what most people think about ulcers being caused by spicy foods or not eating well enough, an ulcer is either caused by two things; inflammation in the intestine lining caused by the bacteria helicobacter pylori or some Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs.

The following fruits are to be avoided when diagnosed with ulcer:
1. Citrus fruits:
Oranges, lemons, grapefruits, and other citrus fruits are highly acidic and can irritate the lining of the stomach, leading to increased pain and discomfort.
2. Pineapple:
Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which can break down protein and cause further irritation to an already sensitive stomach.
3. Tomatoes:
Although technically a fruit, tomatoes are often considered a vegetable and are commonly used in savory dishes. They are highly acidic and can cause stomach pain and discomfort.
4. Berries:
While some berries like blueberries and raspberries may be lower in acid, others like strawberries and cranberries can be highly acidic and cause irritation.
5. Apples:
Apples are often recommended as a healthy snack, but their high acid content may make them problematic for those with ulcers.
6. Grapes:
Grapes, especially when eaten in large quantities, can be highly acidic and cause discomfort for those with ulcers.
