#2024WafuZoneB: Black Starlets target Benin scalp

Date:

The Black Starlets will continue their hunt for a spot at the 2025 CAF African U-17 Cup of Nations when they face Benin in a matchday of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Coach Laryea Kingston’s boys kicked off their campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Ivory Coast at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Joseph Narbi, 16, dominated the Ivorians with a stunning brace last Wednesday in Accra, while Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, and Mark Kagawa inscribed their names onto the scoresheet.

Ghana is currently on top with three points and a superior difference over Ivory Coast.

Benin, going into this crunch clash, suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Ivorians and is in danger of crashing out of the tournament should they lose to the Black Starlets.

Ahead of the game, head coach of Ghana, Laryea Kingston, expressed his gratitude to the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana Football Association for the support and belief shown when he assumed his top position on the national male under-17 team.

“I’ll always thank the FA for believing in me and calling me to come all the way from Denmark to take up the coaching of the team,” Laryea said.

“From the first day that I came to Ghana, my aim has been to change the narrative. That means qualifying the team for the AFCON, an objective that has eluded us since 2017,” he confidently said.
