Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has warned match commissioners that underperformance will not be tolerated, stating that those who fail to meet expectations will be dismissed.
His warning follows growing scrutiny of the GFA’s handling of safety at match venues after the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong Pooley during a Week 19 league match against Nsoatreman. The incident led to the suspension of the league and a meeting between the GFA and 18 Premier League clubs to discuss safety measures.
Speaking at a training session for match officials on improving security protocols, Okraku stressed the need for honesty and fairness in assessing match commissioners’ performance.
“We’ll be very fair in evaluating your work. Be honest,” he said. “Those who fall below the standard will have to leave. Public discourse shows things are not right, and now is the time to fix them.”
Meanwhile, Kotoko has vowed not to resume football activities until justice is served for Pooley’s death, though their first team is set to return to training on February 19. Authorities continue to search for Brimah, the prime suspect in the case.
