The music world and fans across Ghana continue to mourn the loss of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba, whose influence extended far beyond his chart-topping hits.
In a heartfelt tribute, long-timee collaborator and colleague Delay,, who paid a visit to his house,, in her speech reflected on their four years of working together. She described Daddy Lumba as more than just a music icon to her; he was “like a father, a friend, and even family.” Delay recounted how his guidance and support shaped her both professionally and personally, emphasising the deep bond they shared.
Prominent musicians Becca and Kwabena Kwabena also visited the family home to express their condolences, showing the deep respect Lumba commanded within the entertainment industry.
Renowned legal practitioner Lawyer Anokye Frimpong offered insights into Daddy Lumba’s remarkable career. He praised Lumba’s intelligence and strategic thinking, particularly in the political sphere. “Many musicians see their careers fade after composing songs for political parties,” he said. “But Daddy Lumba was different. He remained on top even after creating a hit song for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). That was a testament to his smartness.”
Frimpong also lauded Lumba’s creativity and originality. “He never repeated himself. Each song brought something fresh, something his listeners had never heard before. That’s the mark of a true artist.”
Beyond music, Lumba was known for his strong work ethic and disapproval oflaziness. His influence even reached academic institutions. In 2022, a professor at the University of Ghana Business School cited him as an example, highlighting how Lumba used biblical wisdom to inspire and advise the youth through his music.
“Daddy Lumba wasn’t just a musician; he was a philosopher,” Frimpong concluded.
