MAX NEWS: Helios begins second largest rooftop solar project in Tema

Date:

Helios Solar Company (Helios), a member of LMI Holdings, has begun a rooftop solar installation which is expected to generate 16.82 megawatts (MW) of power.

The project is expected to be among the biggest rooftop solar projects in Africa and the second largest in the world when it is finished in January 2024.

The installation of 29,252 state-of-the-art solar panels, known as the N-type technology, across a roofed area of 95,000 square meters, or roughly the equivalent of 20 football fields, would help to reduce the nation’s yearly carbon emissions by about 11,000 tonnes.

It is part of a $30 million clean power and water agreement supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to promote the creation of jobs and the nation’s industrial development.

Following a visit to the plant with his deputy, Herbert Krapa, last Thursday, Ghana’s energy minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, stated that the plant would play a major role in helping the country reach its aim of 10% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030.
