Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed concern about African men having one wife, describing the act as an imported culture which is destroying the rich cultural fibre of Africans.
According to him, the act is a crime and should be punishable with imprisonment.
In a post that has since gone viral, Kanayo indicated that “our forefathers” were not out of their senses to have introduced polygamy.
“Men are polygamous by nature so when they have one wife, they’ll make up for it by cheating. Whereas if we were polygamous, we won’t cheat. Our forefathers weren’t stupid for introducing polygamy,” he said
Kanayo went further to say that the idea of marrying one wife was a borrowed culture and expressed the need for men to marry multiple women to prove their nature.
“I personally don’t believe in one wife, it’s not our culture, it’s not who we are. These are imported things that are destroying Africa,” he said.
