Does women’s football need a GFA 2nd vice president for development?

Date:

Is the development of women’s football in Ghana dependent on a second vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)?

Well, not all would agree to it, especially Mrs Evelyn Nsia Asare, the Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Premier League (WPL) giants Hasaacas Ladies.

As part of the items on the agenda for discussion in the upcoming GFA Congress, there’s a proposal to elevate the WPL representative on the Executive Council to the status of a new 2nd vice president position.

According to the GFA Review Committee, the proposal, subject to approval by delegates at the Congress, would enable the development of women’s football in the country.

“We don’t need to have a vice president before we can develop women’s football,” she affirmatively stated on Max FM’s Sports Pack show on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

However, Mrs Asare backed the idea of a woman reaching the leadership status of Ghana’s football governing body after years of not having a woman rising to such a level, as men have exerted complete dominance in this field.

FIFA’s strong commitment to equality may have played an important role in approving the proposal for the women’s football representative to be presented as the 2nd vice president of the GFA.

Stakeholders of the sport would discover at the end of the GFA Congress on August 12, 2025, if the proposal would be approved by the delegates.
