The immediate past head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Carlos Queiroz, has claimed the necessary conditions was not fuly established for him to succeed.
The Portuguese coach, together with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) agreed to the termination of his contract after Ghana’s poor start into the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
With days leading to the qualifiers, a number of key players including captain Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, and Antoine Semenyo dropped out of the squad.
It is unclear what the 73-year-old former Manchester United assistant coach was trying to refer to with his statement.
“I came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and support the development of the country’s talent. Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established.”
He added that recent on-field performances against the Ivory Coast and the Gambia in the first two matches of the qualifiers contributed to his decision to leave.
“Our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he stated.
