A psychologist at Ghana Police Hospital, Sylvester Sackiteh, has expressed the need for couples to put cautious efforts into creating memorable experiences in order to aid in memories should one experience memory loss or dementia.
According to him, episodic memories help amnesia patients or those suffering from memory loss to recall certain events that have occurred in their lives before.
Speaking on the topic “Memory Loss and Its Effect on Relationships” on Max Novella Chat in Accra on Sunday, Sackiteh indicated that amnesia has a negative effect on romantic relationships and thus emphasised the need for couples to spend quality time and create memorable events together.
”Be cautious to create good and quality memories while you’re with your partner. Because, if you don’t do any memorable thing and your relationship is normal, in terms of difficulties nothing is there for the person to remember you with. So most times, in counselling and couple therapy, we say, ‘Try your best to do memorable things together,’ he stated.
