Asante Kotoko maintained their position at the top of the Ghana Premier League after grinding out a 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea in a tense midweek clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
The match was a tactical showdown, with Kotoko struggling to impose themselves early on as Berekum Chelsea looked the more threatening side. The visitors controlled possession in the opening stages, forcing Kotoko onto the back foot.
However, the decisive moment came in the 79th minute, when defender Daniel Adjetey produced a moment of brilliance. His long-range strike from outside the box caught the Chelsea defense off guard, breaking the deadlock against the run of play and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Despite Chelsea’s late push for an equalizer, Kotoko held firm, digging deep to protect their narrow lead. With their defensive resilience on full display, the Porcupine Warriors extended their unbeaten streak to six league matches.
This victory not only keeps Kotoko at the summit of the GPL table but also adds extra intensity to their upcoming Ghana FA Cup semi-final showdown against Berekum Chelsea in May. Fans can expect another fiercely contested battle as these two sides prepare to clash again in knockout competition.
