NSA to engage private sector for support

Date:

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, would have a more than tough task in executing his mandate.

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Parliament House of Ghana approved the sum of GH₵65,899,456 to be allocated to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the year.

The budget for the ministry has become a major concern, with many suggesting the amount may not be enough given the mammoth amount of work needed to be done at various national sporting facilities, for instance.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, in an interview with Max TV’s Nana Darkwa Gyasi, revealed the NSA may have to rely on sponsorship from the private sector to aid carrying out crucial works.

“Marketing, branding, and sponsorships are very important, especially as His Excellency said we need to tighten our belts… At the appropriate time, we will roll out plans to engage corporate Ghana to come on board like they’ve never done before.

Poor maintenance of national stadia was the bane of the previous administration, creating a bad image for the NSA. A problem which the current Director General, Mr Ankrah, is determined to avert.
