Concerns are mounting over the repeated use of laser pointers to distract players during CAF competitions, with the latest incident occurring during the 2025 WAFCON final between Nigeria and Morocco.
During the Super Falcons’ 3-2 win over the hosts in Rabat, lasers were visibly aimed at players like Esther Okoronkwo and Michelle Alozie, particularly during set-pieces such as penalties, free kicks, and throw-ins.
The tactic, employed by Moroccan fans, appeared intended to disrupt the Nigerian team’s focus.
Head coach Justin Madugu condemned the act, revealing he was also targeted.
“The lasers weren’t just on the players — they pointed them at me too,” he said post-match. “I don’t think this should be allowed to continue.”
The incident has sparked fresh calls for CAF to address the growing misuse of laser lights in African football.
