The government of Ghana is set to roll out a new nationwide SIM registration exercise in 2026.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George, minister for communications, digital technology, and innovations, confirmed the exercise on TV3.
The fresh SIM registration will be expected to have been completed by the first quarter of next year.
According to the honourable minister, the previous process done by former minister Ursula Ekuful under the H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo administration was invalid.
He disclosed that the past government failed to meet certain key requirements, rendering the whole process as a complete waste of Ghanaians’ time.
About 80 per cent of data collected by the previous government have been cleared, and they have been cross-referenced with data at the National Identification Authority.
A new legislative instrument to guide the process will be presented to parliament for approval upon its completion by Hon. George, as he remained firm on a legal framework being established.
