Morocco to Take Legal Action Against Senegal

Date:

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has announced that it will take legal action regarding the Senegalese team’s decision to withdraw from the pitch during the AFCON final game against Morocco.

The federation stated that it will initiate legal procedures with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as well as FIFA to rule on the controversial and condemnable decision of the Senegalese team.

The FRMF statement came in response to chaotic scenes and acts created by the Senegalese team and their coach, as well as fans, after a referee awarded a legitimate penalty to Morocco upon a foul against Brahim Diaz in the penalty area.

Senegalese players responded to the decision in a fit of rage, arguing and confronting the officials of the game, with their coach, Pape Thiaw, urging them to abandon the match.

Senegalese fans were caught on camera destroying the stadium seats, using them as weapons against security guards who intervened to stop the mob from storming the pitch.

FRMF said that it will take legal measures against those who perpetrated the acts of vandalism and violence following the VAR-verified penalty announcement.

“This situation had a significant impact on the normal course of the match and on the players’ performance,” the FRMF said, extending its sincere thanks to all Moroccan supporters who remained loyal to the national team.
