The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has scheduled its 14th Extraordinary General Assembly for Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt.
Incumbent President Dr. Patrice Motsepe will stand unopposed for re-election, extending his leadership of the continent’s chief football governing body.
In addition, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku is also running unopposed for a position on the CAF Executive Committee, representing the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B).
The Congress is set to commence at 10:00 AM local time and will involve the election of the CAF President, the Executive Committee members, and African representatives to the FIFA Council for the 2025-2029 term.
Dr. Motsepe, who assumed office in 2021, aims to continue building on the accomplishments of his first term, while Okraku seeks to join CAF’s highest decision-making body for the very first time.
The agenda will feature a welcome address from Dr. Motsepe, followed by speeches from significant CAF partners and stakeholders. Additionally, the Assembly will verify its compliance with statutory requirements, appoint scrutineers and officials to ensure the accuracy of the official minutes, and prepare for the elections.
Among the key candidates for the Executive Committee are Wallace John Karia of Tanzania (CECAFA), Mustapha Ishola Raji of Liberia (WAFU A), and Elvis Raja Chetty of Seychelles (COSAFA).
Representatives vying for positions on the FIFA Council include notable figures such as Fouzi Lekjaa from Morocco, Augustine Senghor from Senegal, Amaju Pinnick from Nigeria, and Isha Johansen from Sierra Leone.
Additionally, Niger’s Djibrilla Hima Hamidou is also reported to be contesting for a seat on the FIFA Council, representing WAFU B. In total, approximately 12 candidates are competing for five available slots.
The Congress will conclude with a closing address by Dr. Motsepe, highlighting a crucial moment in African football governance as the newly elected officials embark on their mission to elevate the sport throughout the continent.
