The Black Princesses of Ghana crashed out of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a thrilling 3-1 win over New Zealand after two defeats to Austria and Japan.
Head coach of the Princesses, Yusif Bassigi, hoped to have led his side out of the group to the next round as the third-best-placed team, but Argentina’s win ruled out every possible chance of Ghana’s progression.
New Zealand found the back of the net thanks to a defensive mixup in the 63rd minute after Salamatu Abdulai had given Ghana the lead in four minutes earlier.
Captain of the Black Princesses, Stella Nyamekye, as usual, had a massive impact on the game as she provided the assist for Salamutu’s second for Ghana before Tracy Twum scored the third seconds after coming on as a substitute, condemning the Kiwees to a bottom-placed finish in group E.
