Award-winning singer King David says he ditched his dream of being a footballer due to the truancy that comes with the profession.
According to him, he was torn between his education and his talent and dream of becoming a footballer.
Speaking in an interview on the Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the “Ayefe Notse” hitmaker stated that before he could play football, he had to skip school. Since the profession was not as lucrative as it was today, he decided to concentrate on his education.
“During our time of football, there was no money in it. I remember, you could play two or three matches on one Saturday for different teams before you could earn something small. But our time there had no money in it. I was also more interested in my education because you ought to skip school and classes before you could play football,” he said.
Talking about his DJing talent, King David also said he had to give up on it due to the stigma involved in it.
He said at that time people regarded DJ as a job for those without life purpose and ambitions; thus, he would rather embrace music.
Known in real life as David Kotey Neequaye, he rose to fame in 2003 after his hit song “Ayefe Notse”.
He sings in Ga and blends it with Twi and was born to the late Seth Amon Niikoi-Olai and Madam Emelia Naadu Mensah at Abossey Okai in Accra, King. As he is popularly known, he is the fourth of eight boys in the family.
He is a former student of the Modern School of Draftsmanship (MODESCO), where he studied draftsmanship and designing.
