Veteran Highlife musician Smart Nkansah says he is not celebrated enough in Ghana’s industry.
According to him, the country fails to honour those who are deemed to be honoured.
Speaking in an interview with the Max Morning Show in Accra on Thursday, Smart Nkansah noted that a school he worked as security for in America had his work documented.
“Until I became a security guard in a creative arts school abroad, that’s when I realised Ghana doesn’t do much for their legends. When I went there, they were changing the library; they were moving it to another place. Whilst working, someone brought a book titled African All Stars, and I saw Nigerian legends listed. I proceeded to Ghana’s lists, and I saw my name there.
I also went to see another book titled African Music, and I saw Repercussions of Celebrated African-American Music. In that documented book, I saw my picture. I was surprised to see that one-and-a-half pages was dedicated to that. It contained a story about me, so the school blew my picture and pasted it there,” he narrated.
Smart Nkansah said he was so happy that the things he was doing that the country disregarded were actually appreciated abroad and gave him his flower for his contributions to the country’s music industry.
