GARID PROJECT: Pamprom, First Light Junction to Be Closed

Date:

The Ministry for Works and Housing has announced an ongoing drainage project on the flood-prone Dr Busia Highway in Accra.

From September 7, 2026, works will commence on a double-cell underground rectangular stormwater drain from Pamprom Junction to First Light Junction in Kaneshie.

The drainage system, which would be constructed 10 m wide, running from 1.5 km, will replace the existing 1.2 dm two-chambered pipes that currently serve the enclave.

Project Coordinator for the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID), Dr Kwadwo Ohene Sarfoh, stated the stormwater drainage system will connect to the recently completed portion on the Accra Academy campus. It will also connect to the drain at Pamprom Junction.

Furthermore, road closure to pave the way for timely construction will be inevitable in the first phase, which will be completed at the end of November 2026.

Affected vehicles or commuters from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Graphic Road, and Korle-Bu Road heading towards Pamprom will have to use the Awudome Cemetery road, New Times Corp to Awudome roundabout, and Oblogo to Mataheko junction to access the First Light junction.

Pamprom Junction will then be open to traffic once the completion of the first phase in the first week of December 2026. Motorists will be able to make a right at Pamprom Junction to connect to alternative routes towards the First Light Junction.
