Pastor in Court Over Viral Shatta Wale Assassination

Date:

Reverend Daniel Yaw Donkoh, also known as D.Y. Donkoh, has been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly publishing a false prophecy on TikTok, claiming musician Shatta Wale would be assassinated by three armed men.

He has been charged with the publication of false news, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Presiding judge Mrs Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Basit granted Donkoh bail of GHC20,000 with three sureties, one to be justified. He is to report to police biweekly, and the case has been adjourned to August 27, 2025, for a Case Management Conference.

Donkoh’s lawyer appealed for bail, citing that the pastor is a family man with four children, a known resident, and founder of a church located at Israel, Tabora in Accra. The defence added that Donkoh had fully cooperated with police and posed no risk of interfering with investigations.

Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, prosecuting, said the complainant, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, is a musician and businessman residing in East Legon, Accra.

On July 21, 2025, Shatta Wale’s Public Relations Manager, Samuel Baah Atuobi (aka Sammy Flex), filed a report after the team discovered the video online. In it, Donkoh claimed he had received a prophetic vision of Shatta Wale’s impending assassination.

Prosecution stated that the viral nature of the video caused the complainant to live in fear and distress. Attempts to reach Donkoh initially failed, but on July 25, police received intelligence that some of Shatta Wale’s angry fans were planning to storm the pastor’s church at Tabora Alhaji.

To avoid escalation, officers visited the church and invited Donkoh for questioning.

During interrogation, Donkoh admitted to posting the prophecy video, saying it was meant to get Shatta Wale’s attention.

The court will reconvene next month to continue the case.
