In the wake of widespread public concern and media speculation, the Gbawe Kwatei Family has issued a firm official disclaimer dissociating the Gbawe Palace and its leadership from a recent shooting incident reportedly involving a woman referred to as a “Queen Mother” at Gbawe Zero.
The statement, signed by the Chiefs and Elders of the Gbawe Kwatei Family Stool, clarifies that the woman at the center of the controversy is not recognized by the Gbawe traditional authority and has no affiliation with the Gbawe Kwatei Stool.
According to the statement released on 9th July 2025, the family emphasized four key points:
-
The woman referred to as a “Queen Mother” is not known to the Gbawe Traditional Authority.
-
The naming ceremony during which the incident occurred was not sanctioned, organized, or hosted by the Gbawe Palace.
-
The alleged shooter is neither a native nor a member of the Gbawe community and has no ties to the royal family.
-
The fact that the incident occurred within the Gbawe area does not link it to the palace, its authorities, or its activities.
The Gbawe Kwatei Family issued a strong caution to the media, bloggers, and social commentators to avoid unsubstantiated associations between the Gbawe Palace and this unfortunate event. The family also urged the public to rely on official updates from the Ghana Police Service, who are actively investigating the matter.
“The Gbawe Kwatei Family remains committed to peace, truth, and the integrity of our cherished traditions,” the statement concluded.
This bold clarification seeks to protect the reputation and sanctity of the Gbawe Traditional Authority, especially as false narratives threaten to erode public trust in traditional institutions.
