The Ghana Police Service has announced in a press release the foil of an attempt by certain individuals to steal gold from the Newmont mining site at Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region.
The incident, which occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 8, 2025, saw the Police in physical confrontation with the suspects.
“During the operation to contain the situation, the Police confronted the suspects, leading to the death of three persons and injuries to four others,” the release stated.
The Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, run point in the operation, as a special investigation from Accra was sent to the community to investigate the incident thoroughly.
The bodies of the deceased, who are Muslims, will be released to their families after due process of the law has been followed, as the Police have called on the people in the community to remain calm.
