Things at Real Madrid are certainly not going as planned as the club suffered a shock defeat to a lower league side Albecete.
The third most successful team in the history of the Copa Del Rey, Real Madrid, have been knocked out Spanish Segundo side Albecete.
Losing to the minnows 3-2 away wasn’t the start new head coach, Alvaro Arbeloa dreamed of after only being promoted to the first team on Monday.
Arbeloa’s decision to field a side less of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, etc, would certainly be questioned by many.
Despite the likes of Vinicius Jr, Fede Valverde, Dean Huijsen, and Ardan Guler starting the game, Madrid, twice had to come from behind to level the game.
Franco Mastantuono levelled the score after Javi Villlar had given Albecete the lead just before the end of the first-half.
Jefté Betancor came on as a substitute in the second-half and scored twice for a shock Albecete win despite Gonzalo Garcia pulling one back for Madrid.
The disappointment for the most successful club in the world continues in the 2025-26 season.
