‎Comedy is not lucrative— Lekzy Decomic

Date:

Stand-up comedian Lekzy Decomic has lamented that comedy in the country is not lucrative enough.

According to him, the country doesn’t value art; thus, it fails to invest and pay comedians what they truly deserve.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, Lekzy Decomic stated that the low comic fee stemmed from the fact that the country did not appreciate talent.

“Naturally, art comes to Ghanaians easily, so we don’t see its value. We are talented in such a way that everything becomes normal to us, and we no longer see it as talent. “A white man will come and see beads, earthenware bowls, among others, and see them as artefacts, but we will lessly regard them,” he said.

The perception that Ghanaians have about art and comedy, Lekzy Decomic said, had made the sector not lucrative for players in the country.

“On the projection aspect comedy is growing, but on the financial aspect we haven’t reached anywhere if we compare ourselves to others.”

“Because this same talent we have is the same as what others have somewhere, but if we look at the money they are commanding and what we are being paid in Ghana, ours is just a peanut,” he added.
