Former Chairman of the National Sports Authority Board, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyeman, has expressed belief that the Black Stars goalkeeping problem has been curtailed.
Otto Addo, head coach of the Black Stars, surprised many with not only the inclusion of Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare but also the starting lineups of the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
Having been impressed by the Hearts captain, Hon. Agyeman opined on Max FM’s Sports Pack that the 31-year-old Asare could be the solution to the goalkeeping department of the team which has performed underwhelmingly in recent years.
“He has an aura that comes with a clean slate. I was sceptical about his inclusion in the starting lineup, Chad, considering the kind of goal he conceded to Dreams FC with Hearts. I felt he could have done better, but against Chad, he performed well, though he wasn’t tested much.
In the second game, he kept the post really well, and I think now we have gotten the solution to our goalkeeping,” Hon Agyeman firmly said to Josiah Okoe Quaye.
Asare has won many plaudits for his calming and assuring displays in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup games against Chad and Madagascar and is expected to remain in post, should he maintain his form at the club side.
