Ghana has been confirmed as a participant in the first-ever Student Futsal Media Festival, set to take place in Russia in April 2026.
Organised by the Spartak Moscow Football Club, nine universities from as many countries will be represented, including an unknown Ghanaian university, yet to be named as the country’s representative at the upcoming games.
The event forms part of the Sports Federation of Russia’s Strategy for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports in the Russian Federation until 2030.
Three other African countries, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt, will join Ghana to participate in the groundbreaking sports competition, which is set to feature a total of 11 countries, including BRICS countries, competing for the ultimate title.
The 2026 Student Futsal Media Festival has been tipped to generate numerous socio-economic and sporting benefits for Russian sports and the Russian economy by strengthening international cooperation and enhancing Russia’s authority in the international sports arena.
An increase in the number of international students enrolled in higher education programmes at Russian higher education institutions and scientific organisations by 2030 is also expected to be one of the numerous benefits of the games.
Ghana’s participation in the much-anticipated and competitive tournament was made an actual dream through the support of the Assio’s Foundation, a Ghanaian-based organisation aimed at eradicating poverty through sports, education, and community development.
The competition will feature 250 student-athletes and 100 student activists (volunteers) involved in organising the event. African students in Russia are also eligible to apply for volunteer work at the festival.
Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee, Mikhail Degtyarev, reiterating his expectations for the upcoming international tournament, said, “Sports cooperation with BRICS countries is built in the spirit of partnership and remains one of the priority areas of interaction between states.”
The Student Futsal Media Festival is projected to run over 26 hours of live broadcast, 3,500,000 video-on-demand views, with 500,000 live broadcast views, which also features augmented reality graphics in broadcasts.
The Festival will have dedicated channels on VK, TG, YouTube, and TikTok; a dedicated website for all updates and information; and advertisements on all available platforms.
The 3-day festival runs from April 17 to 19, 2026, with two modern venues set to host the prestigious games. The festival will also feature sports programmes, business programmes, and educational programmes, as well as an exhibition for partners.
The 1st-ever Student Futsal Media Festival will certainly not only foster relationships between countries but is also expected to unearth the next generation of student athletes to become world beaters.
