Asante Kotoko may have given up on the pursuit of the 2024—25 Ghana Premier League title after their goalless draw with Hearts of Oak in matchweek 30.
Interim head coach of Kotoko, Karim Zito, who was brought in to steer the club to league and cup success following the dismissal of former coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Zito managed to win his first game in charge of the club against Aduana FC in matchweek 29; however, the draw with Hearts of Oak in the subsequent game has forced the coach to be more realistic about which objective to pursue.
“When you look at the two sides of the coin, the FA and the league, I think we have to push more for the FA than the league. I have to be honest,” Zito said in a post-match interview.
Zito’s admission may come as a surprise to many, as Kotoko are just three points off the top spot with four games remaining in the GPL.
Kotoko will take on Berekum Chelsea in the semi-final of this season’s MTN FA Cup at the TNA Stadium on May 11.
